How do you create an API key for the API?

Under Programmschnittstelle (API), tap “Schlüssel anlegen” (Create key), choose the permissions and confirm with your code. tiaki shows the secret only once – copy it right away.

Through the API, other programs – for example newsletter services like Brevo or CleverReach, your CRM, or Zapier and Make – fetch your contacts from tiaki, including proof of consent.

Step by step

  1. Open the workspace menu (your company name at the top) and choose Programmschnittstelle (API).
  2. Under Schlüssel (Keys), tap Schlüssel anlegen (Create key).
  3. Enter a name under Wofür? (What for?), e.g. “Brevo”.
  4. Under Was darf der Schlüssel? (What can the key do?), choose Kontakte lesen (Read contacts), Einwilligungen lesen (Read consents) and, if needed, Kontakte anlegen und ergänzen (Create and update contacts).
  5. Under Gültig (Valid), choose how long the key lasts – or läuft nicht ab (never expires).
  6. Enter the Bestätigungscode (Confirmation code) from your authenticator app and tap Schlüssel anlegen.
  7. Now copy the Schlüssel-ID (Key ID) and Geheimnis (Secret) and enter both in your program.

Important: tiaki shows the secret only this one time. Lost it? Just create a new key and revoke the old one.

Tip: If your program asks for “username” and “password,” use the key ID as the username and the secret as the password. If it wants a “bearer token,” copy the field Bearer-Token (ID.Geheimnis) (Bearer token (ID.secret)). You’ll find a guide with examples under Anleitung mit Beispielen (Guide with examples).

Protokoll (Log) shows every request made with a key; Widerrufen (Revoke) blocks it immediately.

Not working?

  • “Die Programmschnittstelle ist Teil jedes Tarifs” (The API is part of every plan): It’s locked during the trial. Choose a plan, then you can create keys.
  • You don’t see a button: Only owners and managers can set up keys and webhooks.
  • Your program gets rejected: Check whether the key is abgelaufen (expired) or widerrufen (revoked). If you entered an IP allowlist, leave it empty for Zapier and Make – their addresses change.
